Running Start - Getting Started

Your high school is part of a designated service area. The Running Start Coordinator at your regional CCSNH college will assist you in the course approval process.

Steps toward Course Approval:

Discuss Running Start with your principal and/or guidance department to seek internal approval to move forward

Identify the CCSNH course(s) you would like to offer your students. (Some courses are not offered at every campus. If you are interested in a course offered by a campus other than the one designated to serve you, contact the Running Start Coordinator at that specific campus.) Link to college catalogs

Contact the local Running Start Coordinator to request the Course Content Outline and pertinent materials for the specific course you are planning to offer.

Submit a resume and, if requested, copies of transcripts to be reviewed by the CCSNH Vice President of Academic Affairs and Department Chair.

Forward specific course information you will be using in the high school to the College. This includes your textbook (if different from the one used at CCSNH), syllabus, and other pertinent resource materials (i.e. exams and other assessment tools). Textbook selection is a college responsibility.

Schedule a meeting for both teaching partners (high school and college) to review the specifics of the course being considered. If both teaching partners agree that the course’s content, materials and assessment criteria are consistent, the final step is to…

Complete a “Running Start Course Approval Form” to formalize the contract.

It is important that this process be completed prior the beginning of the semester.

Teaching a CCSNH course at your high school entitles your school to a voucher for any 3-credit course offered in the CCSNH System. This voucher will be submitted to your high school’s principal with the recommendation that it be forwarded directly to the teacher. This voucher is good for one year and is fully transferable to a third party.
