MANCHESTER--Manchester businessman Ron Rioux will take the helm of Manchester Community College (MCC) effective immediately. Rioux, a member of the Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH) Board of Trustees, former member of the College Advisory Board for MCC and recently retired President and CEO of St. Mary's Bank, will serve as President of the college on an interim basis. Rioux replaces Darlene Miller, who has resigned to pursue other professional opportunities. CCSNH Chancellor Richard Gustafson noted, "Ron Rioux's extensive experience in organizational and financial management, his stature in the business community, and his affiliation with the college will enable him to provide valuable leadership to Manchester Community College." Beginning this fall, the CCSNH board of trustees will conduct a search for a new President for MCC. During the interim period, Rioux will take a leave of absence from his position on the board of trustees. "I am a strong believer in the tremendously important role community colleges play in New Hampshire and across the nation, helping people improve their lives, attain valuable career goals, and use their community college experience as a foundation for future achievement," said Rioux. "It has been rewarding to see how MCC has grown and evolved over the last several years. I look forward to working with a very talented group of staff, faculty and, of course, the MCC students to ensure a smooth transition and maintain the exciting momentum here at MCC." Rioux noted, "I am particularly interested in further developing MCC's connections with area businesses in this time of economic challenges. My background in the regional business community should serve me well in these efforts." Rioux has been part of the banking and finance community in New Hampshire since 1968, and served in his most recent position as President and CEO of St. Mary's Bank from 1993 - 2008, where he continues to serve on the board. He has served as a "loaned executive" to both the NH Department of Resources and Economic Development and the Governor's office. His background includes extensive civic and community affiliations. He is a founder and vice chairman of America's Credit Union Museum Foundation, which owns and operates a museum in Manchester that showcases the history of credit unions in the United States. He is a board member and vice chairman of Catholic Medical Center; a board member and vice chairman of RiverWoods of Exeter, a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community; and vice chairman of the board of New Hampshire Catholic Charities. Gustafson commended Dr. Miller's achievements as President of MCC since 2006, and said "I am joined by the entire board of trustees in wishing Dr. Miller well and thanking her for her service to the college." |
