Matthew Newland was elected Vice-Chairperson of the Community Colleges System of New Hampshire Foundation in November of 2008.
He is currently the State of New Hampshire’s Manager of Employee Relations appointed by Governor John Lynch and reappointed by Governor Maggie Hassan. He serves as the Chief Negotiator for the Governor’s collective bargaining team. In that role he negotiates terms and conditions of employment for the State’s 10,000+ employees on behalf of the Governor.
Prior to being appointed to his current position, he worked as a Principal Contract Negotiator for the Electronic Systems line of business at BAE Systems in Nashua, NH. In that capacity, he negotiated and administered Government and Commercial defense contracts with a broad portfolio of mission-critical electronic systems. He worked at BAE systems for nearly thirteen years.
Prior to joining BAE Systems, he was with the Department of Safety in Concord, NH. He served two terms as a State Representative to the New Hampshire General Court where he was appointed to the Commerce, Small Business, Consumer Affairs & Economic Development Committee. He also worked as a Business Manager for Nu-Wave Electric in Goffstown.
In addition to the Community Colleges of NH Foundation Board, he served as a Director on the boards of the Community Services Council of NH, the UNH Alumni Association and as a Trustee on the University System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees.
In 2006, he was recognized as one of the “40 Under Forty” by the NH Union Leader for being “A young leader making NH better.”
He received a BS in Business Administration from the Whittemore School of Business and Economics (aka Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics) at UNH in Durham, NH. He is an alumnus of the NHTI, Concord's Community College and a graduate of Concord High School.
Matt lives in Concord with his wife and two children.
