SCOPE OF WORK: To provide legal research and administrative support in the preparation of contracts, briefs, and documents and assists in the development of legal cases and opinions. This position shall report to the Legal Counsel at the Community College System of New Hampshire.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Works with legal counsel and college and system personnel in the preparation requests for proposals (RFP) and contracts for construction projects and general services.
- Assists Legal Counsel in preparing cases for Administrative Hearings before Public Employee Labor Relations Board, Personnel Appeals Board, Human Rights Commission, or other judiciary, arbitration or review panel.
- Researches and analyzes legal sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, codes, or other data and analyzes complaints of employees, students, businesses, agencies or other entities.
- Under the direction of the General Counsel, gathers and analyzes data and prepares legal documents such as briefs, appeals, contracts, rules, policies, procedures, or agreements for use, review, and approval by counsel according to established agency professional and technical guidelines.
- Issues subpoenas and coordinates availability of witnesses to ensure their appearance for testimony at court trials, depositions, and administrative hearings.
- Works with the CCSNH administrators and staff to assess requests for information and documents and assists in providing legal services to meet System needs and to ensure compliance with laws and administrative rules.
- Prepares correspondence and answers telephone calls from the public and regarding cases with defendants, complainants and their attorneys.
- Maintain and organizes case files on pending and resolved matters and maintains and files correspondence and legal files and information for easy retrieval.
- Assists in investigations as needed with staff investigators.
- Provides general clerical support services to enhance the operations of legal services.
- Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate's degree or two years of college with a major study in law, paralegal studies, or a related legal field, or a paralegal certificate from a certified paralegal program. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three years' experience in legal research, legal investigative, paralegal work, criminal justice or an area which provided experience with legal terminology, with at least one year at the level of Paralegal I. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
License/Certification: Valid driver’s license or access to statewide transportation.
