PSNH and NASA -- Partners In Giving

Scholarship Donations Reach $120,000 Mark

Concord, NH... Public Service Company of New Hampshire (PSNH), in a grant partnership with NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has continued their commitment to the NH Community Technical College System (NHCTCS) by donating an additional $20,000 gift to be used toward scholarships.

NASA and PSNH provide matching grant amounts, rounding out a three-year $120,000 commitment.  The goal of the PSNH/NASA program is for scholarships to be awarded to students in science, math, math or science teacher education, engineering, and technology programs at any of the seven NHCTCS Campuses state-wide.

The NASA/PSNH Scholarship Mission is to understand and protect the planet; explore the Universe and search for life; inspire the next generation of explorers.  Together, NASA and PSNH emphasize diversity and therefore strongly encourage nontraditional and underrepresented students to enter career fields in these areas.

“PSNH recognizes that the future prosperity of New Hampshire depends greatly on our ability to educate its citizens,” said Nury Marquez, Corporate Community Relations Manager at PSNH.  “By matching the NASA scholarship program, we’ve been able to support students who are deserving of assistance and who are critical to the viability of technical industries.”

Last year, the Community Technical Colleges Foundation, awarded sixteen $1,000 scholarships state-wide to applicants who have career goals of attending four year institutions in fields of interest to either PSNH or NASA.  The highly competitive scholarship rewards students who can identify and communicate a direct relationship between his/her program of study and the mission of the Scholarship Program.  The student must demonstrate an ongoing interest in the fields of science, mathematics, science/math teaching, or engineering and plan to pursue such a position upon graduation.

In addition to the commitment by NASA and PSNH, the program is made possible through the NH Space Grant Consortium.  The Space Grant Program’s Objective is to promote programs related to aeronautics, astronautics, Earth Science, space science and technology, and related fields.
