Running Start and eStart
In 1999, the Community College System of New Hampshire introduced the Running Start program, a partnership between the community colleges and high schools giving students the opportunity to take courses for concurrent high school and college credit. eStart was created in 2009 in partnership with the Virtual Learning Academy Charter School, based in Exeter, NH. For information on eStart click here.
Courses taught through the Running Start program are college courses taught at the high school by credentialed high school faculty as part of the daily class schedule.
The Running Start program was selected for a Higher Education Excellence Award by the New England Board of Higher Education - 2006 Robert J. McKenna Award.
"It’s a great opportunity for students to earn college credit. The work and papers helped me get a real feel for what to expect next year."
– Former RS student at Mascoma Regional High School
"I was able to transfer all my credits to the University of Rhode Island. I’m thankful for the opportunity to save so much money and get a head start on my college education. Because of the extra credits I earned through Running Start, I will finish all my gen eds in my first semester of college."
– Former RS student at Profile High School
"I consider earning college credit through the Running Start program to be my greatest accomplishment while attending the Seacoast School of Technology. When I began my college career at Michigan State University, I was almost sophomore status in credits and I was only a freshman! Because of this wonderful opportunity, I was able to graduate in three and a half years instead of four."
- Former RS student at the Seacoast School of Technology
"My daughter just transferred her credits this semester. She was thrilled. I love this program! Having college coursework on her resume when applying to college was very helpful. I will be sure my son, now a sophomore, participates."
- Parent of a former RS student at Portsmouth High School
"It’s a great opportunity to save money and prepare for college. Take as many as possible!"
- Former RS student at Stevens High School
